چکیده

With the advent of cheap, but relatively low-resolution, video sensors, the importance of automatically mosaicing many small video images to one large image has increased. This is due mainly to the many useful applications that may be based on such technology, such as hand-held mobile scanning, multi-resolution imaging, panoramic spreads and video compression. The process of creating a mosaiced image consists of first finding the geometric registration of each small image from the sequence to a global image plane, and then combining all the registered images into one smooth, pleasing image. We review two existing methods for finding the registration: sequential and canvas mosaicing, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each of those algorithms. After suggesting two methods to improve the reliability and the accuracy of the basic sequential algorithm, we present our algorithm, which combines and enhances the sequential and canvas methods. We demonstrate how our algorithm overcomes most of the pitfalls of each of the two simpler algorithms. Finally, we present a novel approach to combining the registered images utilizing both geometrical and content information in order to improve the visual quality of the mosaic.

Robust SIFT-Based Hierarchical Video Mosaicing for Endomicroscopy

We present a method to perform video mosaicing for endomicroscopy with two major improvements compared to the state of the art. First, instead of using individual images directly, we start by creating sub-mosaics from short video sub-sequences using iconic registration. The sub-mosaics are then considered for feature-based registration. Second, groupwise estimation is performed between all subm...

Applying super-resolution to panoramic mosaics

Mosaicing and super resolution are two ways to combine information from multiple frames in video sequences. Mosaicing displays the information of multiple frames in a single panoramic image. Super-resolution uses regions which appear in multiple frames to improve resolution and reduce noise. Simple combination of the two methods is problematic since the alignment used for mosaicing may not be a...

Consistent image alignment for video mosaicing

Image mosaicing is widely used in computer vision applications. In this paper, a new globally consistent image alignment method for video mosaicing is presented. Due to various uncertainties on noise, illumination, andmodeling, the problem of global image alignment is considered as a stochastic estimation problem. The augmented system state consists of the transformation parameters of video ima...

Dynamic Video Mosaicing and Augmented Reality for Subsea Inspection and Monitoring

This paper reports a powerful technique for building panoramic mosaics from video sequences automatically. No information about the camera motion nor on its optical parameters are necessary. Mosaics can be built even in the presence of objects moving in front of the target scene (dynamic mosaicing), which are deleted by motion analysis. The technique also makes augmented reality possible, that ...

Super-Resolution Mosaicing of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Surveillance Video Frames

Unmanned Aircraft Systems have been used in many military and civil applications, particularly surveillance. However, video frames are often blurry, noisy, and exhibit insufficient spatial resolution. This project aims to develop a vision-based algorithm to improve the quality of UAS video frames. This algorithm will be able to generate high resolution mosaic output through a combination of ima...

An Image Mosaicing Module for Wide-Area Surveillance

This paper presents a fully automatic image mosaicing method for needs of wide-area video surveillance. A pure featurebased approach was adopted for finding the registration between the images. This approach provides us with several advantages. Our method is robust against illumination variations, moving objects, image rotation, image scaling, imaging noise, and is relatively fast to calculate....
